Business phone lines explained
Although telephone lines are fairly simple there are a few key concepts to be aware of.
You can always call us for more advice or ask one of our consultants for a visit to talk things through.
Phone lines in the UK usually come in three types:
Analog - a regular phone line
The standard analog line is familiar to most people. It's the single phone line that we typically have at home or in the office. An analog phone line maybe required for some uses (eg broadband or alarm monitoring).
These simple lines can start to become unmanageable for installations requiring large numbers of concurrent phone conversations.
ISDN2
A single ISDN2 line actually consists of two channels - ie you can make or receive two calls at once.
ISDN also has several functional advantages over a standard line (relating to DDI and CLI capabilities) but these are best discussed directly with a consultant.
ISDN30
ISDN30 is a high capacity verson of ISDN2. ISDN30 lines can handle between 8 and 30 concurrent lines - making them much more cost-efficient than ISDN2 to install and manage.
